Historical victory for Brazil

The Brazilian team was not among the favorites, but it dominated this edition 2018 of the nations Cup head and shoulders! Composed of Luiz Felipe de Azevedo Filho (Chaccomo), Felipe Amaral (Germanico T), Yuri Mansur (Vitiki) and Pedro Veniss (Quabri de l’Isle), the team registered for the very first time Brazil on the record of the Nations Cup.
In the first round, the Brazilians delivered a nearly flawless performance, with a total score of 2 points. The Netherlands, who had in their team the world n°1 Harrie Smolders (Don VHP Z), were not far, with 4 points. Spain completed the first round with 4 points as well. Switzerland, led by the Olympic champion Steve Guerdat, totalized 5 points. France finished the first round with 8 points, in spite of Simon Delestre and Hermès Ryan’s clear round.
In the second round, Brazil did not tremble et resisted the pressure from Netherlands, who signed two clear rounds from Harrie Smolders and Marc Houtzager (Sterrehof’s Calimero). The Swiss team could also rely on two clear rounds with Alain Jufer (Rahmannshof Tic Tac) and Steve Guerdat (Hannah). With only one clear round (Manuel Fernandez Saro and Cannavaro 9), Spain saw the podium fade away. For France, Patrice Delaveau’s clear round with Aquila HDC (winner of the Grand Prix of the city of La Baule on Friday) has not been good enough, and the French finish 7th with a score of 20 points.
Brazil fully enjoyed its victory in front of a packed grand stand ; the public showed them their strong support with enthusiasm. Netherlands place 2nd, Switzerland ends up 3rd.

Rémi Cléro, President of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup of France:
“Congratulations to Brazil, thank you for this victory. Congratulations to Longines as well for this great edition under this new format. Thank you to the FEI as well for its strong presence today in La Baule.”

John Roche, FEI Jumping Director :
“Thank you to La Baule, to Yves Métaireau, mayor of La Baule, for this very successful edition, and for what is done here in favor of equestrian sports. Congratulations to the Brazilian team for this fantastic victory in the Nations Cup that was stunning. Thank you to Frédéric Cottier who offered a beautiful class and to the whole team of the Jumping of La Baule.”

Frédéric Cottier, course designer (FRA):
“ I am only the stage director of this Nations Cup that was exceptional, but the actors play the part. I always look for a beautiful scenario, but this is not a mathematical sport, where you find the proper elements. The allowed time was perfect, it did its job, and I do not like Jump off in that type of classes. Time was really important. I also notice that the ground became better as I promised, et none of the riders had anything to say about it.”

Pedro Paulo Lacerda, chef d’equipe (BRA):
“ It is fantastic for us, it is our first time here in La Baule. It is very special for us here, the public is exceptional, it supported us with an amazing enthusiasm. The choice of the team has been logically done with the best horses. We have secured a group, and yesterday, we went for dinner together to reinforce the link between everybody.”

Luiz Felipe de Azevedo Filho (BRA):
“At first, when I came into the arena, I knew my horse would probably get some time penalties. After the first round, I thought I could secure the second round and my team mates reassured me by telling me I could ride at my own pace. This strategy has paid off for us in the end.”

Felipe Amaral (BRA):
“I did not have my top horse, this one was not as fit, it is the first time for Germanico T. I did not ride him much since he arrived recently in my stables, and, like Yuri, I ride him regularly in 1,30m classes.”

Yuri Mansur (BRA):
“My horse is very green, in November he was only jumping 1,30m classes. Since Felipe had cleared, I knew we were in a good day. During the second round, he was fantastic again, he is really unbelievable! He reaches this level slowly, I bought him in August, and in October I was competing over 1,30m.”

Pedro Veniss (BRA):
“I would like to thank the FEI and La Baule, it is the most beautiful class I could ride in my career, and with such a great public, it has been fantastic ! My horse jumped very well in the first round my chef d’equipe told me that even one penalty point would not be a problem. In the second round, I had more pressure, but my horse has been exceptional again. We are currently building up a group with a very close team, and I am really happy, since we all look into the same direction.”
